Niviaq Korneliussen's book "Blomsterdalen" from 2020 is about a young woman's life in Greenland. Themes such as suicide, loneliness, and the relationship between Greenland and Denmark are recurring in the book's plot. The book's cover is an abstract screen print that reflects the melancholy contained within the book. In my view, the motif depicts a Greenlandic midnight sky and the surrounding barren nature.

TO PORTRAY A
DARK STORY

SCREEN PRINT FOR THE COVER

The cover is a screen print I created using colors that reflect the midnight sun and the barren Greenlandic landscape. I was heavily inspired by the midnight sun in Greenland, which appears multiple times in the book and in many ways underscores the themes of loneliness and longing present in the book. The idea was to visually capture the book's melancholy. It was also important for me not to create an "over-explained" cover but to allow the abstract motif to create room for interpretation.
